More Storage, Better Flow, Smarter Design

In this article we focus on solving lack of kitchen storage. Many kitchens built in the 1990s share the same frustrations: boxed-in peninsulas, limited storage, oversized modern refrigerators that don’t quite fit, and layouts that simply don’t support how families live today.

If your kitchen feels cramped or cluttered, you’re not alone.

While every kitchen remodel requires a customized solution, one goal is always the same:

Increase storage. Improve flow. Create a space that works beautifully for everyday life.

We were excited to take on this challenge.

Removing the Peninsula to Open the Space

The original peninsula boxed in the work area and restricted movement. By eliminating it, we immediately improved traffic flow and created a more open, functional layout.

Opening this area allowed the kitchen to feel larger—without adding square footage.

One of the biggest space challenges was the double French door leading to the deck. While beautiful, it prevented us from installing the additional cabinetry the homeowners desperately needed.

By replacing it with a single full-view door, we gained valuable wall space—allowing us to install several new cabinets topped with a generous countertop ideal for serving and entertaining.

This change dramatically increased both storage and functionality.

Smart Refrigerator Relocation for Modern Appliances

Today’s refrigerators are wider and deeper than those designed for 1990s homes. The original placement limited both storage and appliance options.

By relocating the refrigerator to the opposite side of the island, we:

Small layout shifts often create the biggest impact in a kitchen remodel.

Updated Lighting for Style and Practicality

Lighting plays a critical role in both appearance and performance. We upgraded the space with:

  • Recessed LED can lights for even illumination

  • New pendant lighting for visual interest

  • Improved task lighting throughout the kitchen

The result is a bright, inviting space that supports cooking, gathering, and entertaining. Do I need a panel upgrade? 7 signs to look for.

Low-Maintenance Quartz Countertops with Subtle Elegance

The new quartz countertops offer durable, low-maintenance living—perfect for busy households. This particular quartz features subtle gold veining that beautifully complements the wood cabinetry and upgraded flooring.

It’s a timeless finish that balances warmth and sophistication.
